It's obvious to most people that hydration is critical for, not only optimal health, but simple daily function. What's much less known is the fact that water alone is not sufficient to hydrate, in fact, drinking copious amounts of water in the absence of electrolytes actually promotes dehydration. How is this possible? It's pretty simple really... electrolytes are electrically charged molecules, as such they regulate the movement of fluid (water) throughout the body (specifically in and out of cells). Put simply, without electrolytes there's nothing to "hang on" to the water we consume and consequently we experience frequent urination and possible dehydration.

Electrolytes XL was formulated to ensure adequate and optimal hydration for everyone. In comparison to many hydration competitors, EXL is formulated with all of the required electrolytes: sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium, and although not technically an electrolyte, zinc since it is lost in sweat. Electrolytes XL is also 100% sugar and artificial sweetener free! Rates of sugar consumption are already in excess (many Canadians already consume >100g of sugar per day) and sugar is not required for hydration so this was an easy decision. As for artificial sweeteners, they continue to be used in the majority of hydration products and supplements despite clear evidence showing gastrointestinal side effects like dysbiosis, diarrhea, constipation, and general digestion problems. With this latest reformulation of EXL we've added coconut water powder in exchange for D-Ribose. D-Ribose is still an underappreciated supplement ingredient for supporting ATP production and the Pentose Phosphate Pathway, however, we wanted to increase the total electrolyte content of our EXL with potassium-rich coconut water, which is the most naturally widespread fruit plant on Earth.
